Techie and Mom

Computer science mom infant care palo altoWe are lucky to have a diverse group of members from all around the world and from all walks of life.  We invite you to "meet" Daniela and her little ones, Romana (2) and  Marcel (4), and learn about the great way fathers are celebrated in Germany.   We know some American dads will be a little jealous.

What kind of work do you do?
I have a degree in computer science and I work as a contractor for Exelixis, a biotech company in South San Francisco. At the moment my focus is on programming user interfaces for the scientists. I am developing the applications they use to upload data from experiments into databases and different reports to view that data.

What is your favorite part of being part of the Cubes&Crayons community?
For me C&C is like working in an office with that homelike feel to it. It is so great to be able to take a break and talk to a grown-up once in a while. 8-) And of course Maureen's coffee. Thanks a lot!
At Cubes & Crayons, you can have your cake and eat it, too.  What's your favorite kind of cake?
 Cheese cake.
What brought you to Cubes&Crayons?
The husband of a friend of mine read an article about C&C and (lucky for me) she forwarded the info to me. I was extremely stressed out from trying to work from home with a not so little child and another older sibling. There was no way for me to handle this in the long run. Every day was extremely unpleasant for the kids as well as for me. And on top of that I could not get all the work done. So that email was a life-saver for me. I immediately sent an email to C&C and became a member. Romana loves the place (her "green day-care" is what she calls it), her playmates and of course Kati and Inna.

"Nothing Happens Unless We First Dream" What dream would you follow that you haven't yet?
I must admit, moving here from Germany four years ago with my now husband and two kids was a great part of my dream come true.

A little known fact to share?
This week I was asked how Germans celebrate Father's day and here is what they do: A couple of men get together and load some little hand wagons with lots and lots of beer. The men and their wagons are dropped off in/at  forests by their wives. The men spend the day walking through the forest with their friends emptying the beer on the way. The men are picked up by their wives in the late afternoon. 8-)
